Gingerbread House Workshop - Family Art Class

This is a parent/child class -  ages 3 and up!
*Create faux candies, gumdrops, lollipops, and more!
*decorate your own special gingerbread house

Inspired by the Christmas village I built from scratch for my 3 children in 2016, this art class will teach you how to make your own "child sized" Gingerbread house.  My own Christmas Village is huge, and my little photography clients have been enjoying the houses in my studio for years. Your children will love to make their own with your help! For this class, I'm providing a smaller premade cardboard house which you can fold up and easily fit in your car, as well as put away at home when not in use.  When assembled, your gingerbread house will be 40" tall, 32" wide, and 27" deep.

Gingerbread House Workshop

Coming soon in December 2024!

Workshop Limited to 10 families

The class will begin with a lesson on space, color, symmetry, and how to plan your design.
Participants will watch demonstrations on how to create various faux candies using materials such as paint, glitter glue, glitter, Elmer's glue, clay sprinkles, wrapping paper, foam discs, and so forth.

1- Parents and children create the faux candies and let them dry.
(some candies may take a day to dry, so you can take them home if you can't attend the 2nd class, or wait to attach them at the 2nd class)

2 - Low Temp hot glue will be used by parents to attach the decor onto the house

Limit 1 house per family - one or two parents may attend with their child or children to collectively create their gingerbread house.

1. How many gingerbread houses can each family create?

One per family, because these are large (40"x32"x27"), take time to create, and the adult will be handling the low temp hot glue. The house will fold down to fit inside of any car.

2. Can families bring children younger than the age of 3?

We are using small pieces of art supplies that are not suitable for children under age 3. And a 3 hour class is too long for mobile little ones. I wouldn't recommend bringing toddlers, because to make the most of your 3 hours in the workshop, you'll want to be able to focus on the art and not chasing kids around. If you have a baby that isn't crawling or walking and two parents attending, then that is probably fine if they like being held.

3. Do participants need to bring any art materials?

No. Everything is provided, however, I recommend buying your own low temp hot glue gun with glue sticks for home after the workshop. You may want to continue embellishing your gingerbread house after the workshop. Plus, you may have a few glitter glue candies still drying in a tray to take home and attach later.

4. What if we can only attend the Sunday class, but not the Tuesday class?

If you need to miss the Tuesday class, it is okay. The Sunday class is when we will be making the faux candies. The purpose of the Tuesday class is for attaching any candies to the house that needed more than 3 hours to dry, as well as having extra time to decorate the house.  If you know that you need to miss the Tuesday class, I will give you a cardboard tray to take home on Sunday and you can attach any candies that haven't dried, later at home.  You'll need either craft glue or hot glue of your own at home to complete your house.

Frequently Asked Questions

I started building these giant houses in 2016 for my children. The Christmas village brought our family so much joy! Where do I store them? Well, that has been a challenge! The positive response I have received from tons of kids playing in them over the years has inspired me to offer an art class so kids can make their own.  But it is important that the size is more manageable for your family, so you'll be pleased with our new materials.
